i dont see how learning about religion is going to help a kid get a job,i'd rather schools put more time in makeing maths and english more fun, i reckon learning about religion should be a choice, kids should be getting there values from there parents, not from a reliogion lesson if it is so great why are there so many warsngoing on as the result of religion?

Yes I think the 'study of religions' should be taught in schools, why? because our very narrow view of the big wide world needs to be broadened, Little old NZ is too full of bigots and racists and ignoramouses therefore in my opinion our children should be taught to appreciate the diversity of religions and the diversity of cultures throughout the world, through education in schoolrooms.

I agree with that, tisme. It shouldn't be compulsory, because it doesn't effectively serve a purpose for childrens future, except encouraging moralistic behaviour. Other subjects are the same, but are compulsory. I think the schools have got it wrong.

Religious study is taught at our school. I have no problem with it. It is the individual's choice later in life and I have given my children that option. Each parent is given a choice wether they wish it taught to their children or not. Frankly, I believe it is the choice of the child. ;D

all my children were raised on books selective,..I read from the bible to all my babies months b4 they were born,..it carried on thruout thier lives,..they were all bar one able to read b4 they were 5 yrs old,..my son was a mischief he caught on when he had turned 6, but he was spoiled rotten... they developed a love of the written word,...their ability to distinguish between what was suitable reading material happened for them in time ,..but b4 that I made it my business to supervise it all for them,.. indeed I think it is the parents responsibility to give thier kids a good start themselves,..... after all they are ours and they are our 20 yr project,...maybe less these days,...

Lorry, do you tell your children stories at bedtime? use to, what has that got to do with religion? Thanks for answering Lorry, I've now lost my train of thought, it was a leading question, probably more relevant had you answered at the time.
