Thanks for that Meandog. Aren't they lovely? It sais on Wikipedia: These send up numerous stems each spring. So I will wait for the stems!! Hope they spread because I planted them under trees where they could stay for ever. I guess I am too late for this year, but I would love to plant some Lily of the Valley next year, reminds me of when I was a kid, I loved them. Same with me: Memories come up. At my aunties place were hundreds growing underneath a tree. I loved picking them. They smell wonderful. I don't think you are too late with growing them. I planted them last summer. You could ask at a nursery if they have them or could order them. Today I bought some wonderful smelling flowers with the vouchers I received for my birthday. I have this "Perfume Garden" and I needed nice smelling flowers. Here is what I have bought: Borognia megastigma (The car was smelling so nice and it is only a small plant yet about 300mm tall) Trillium chloropetalum (The lady at the nursery said that not all trilliums are smelling) Viburnum "Anne Russell"

Garden update.. Already to go, just need the consistent warm weather now.. Here we still have a chance of a frost or 3.. Weeded, bean rack up in a new position and Tomatoe stakes in.. I guess I need less this year... To the right is another small garden with a frame.. Thats for a Supertom Tomatoe plant.. Between the Frame you can see some more rocks... There is another garden there.. Not done yet.. It looks good Snooka. What else are you growing beside the beans and tomatoes?

Boronia has a wonderful perfume ivy We went to Mitre 10 and got some tomato plants and they have been planted, I also got 3 pansies and 3 rununculars and they are all planted along with another plant I got earlier in the week it has tiny white bell shape flowers, similar to a snowdrop but this is a bush. I have also ordered some Lily of the Valley, they said they should be in soon so they are going to give me a ring when they arrive.

PotatoesThis year I want to cover the potatoes with straw instead of mounding them. I have let the potato plants grow to about 100mm and covered them with a heavy straw cover. I hope the straw will keep the potatoes humid during the dry season and will suppress the growth of weeds. I have also sown some coriander seeds and will grow the coriander plants between the potatoes. It is a good companion plant for potatoes.

;D I have discovered a beautiful red potato that I got from the supermarket, called Stroma it is an all rounder. Would not take much to get that to grow as they sprout readily in my cupboard.
Years age they use to dust potatoes with dormatone to stop them from sprouting.

Just scored a large bucket of Macadamia Nuts, so that will keep me busy shelling, and swearing as they are not the easiest thing to shell. LOL

I have to share this hint with you because I think it is really working. About two years ago I was at a half year polytec course about organic gardening. There I have heard the first time about peaches and that they can get some sort of leave curl. An older lady is always putting her tealeaves or tea bags to the peach trees to prevent the leave curl. We have two black boy peach trees and I thought I give this a trial. I gave one of the trees last year all our tea bags and this year there is such a difference between these trees. They stand only about 3 meters apart and I gave them no other treatments. Here are the photos of these two trees:

Oh! yes there is a huge difference, I always put my tea bags out to the compost heap. They say coffee grains are also good for the garden.

Growing Garlic
This year my garlic didn't grow as big as last year and I went and asked my organic teacher. He said:
- Grow garlic after brassicas I went now and bought some mustard and will grow them in the bed I want to grow garlic next year. Radishes could be planted instead of mustard.
- He also said plant them early (April) and water the garlic in the last month of growin (December) a lot.
