Lachanalia border is all in bloom, tulips, aliums, and gladioli are all sprouting, camelias are in bud, lawn just got its first spring haircut, and the pond got a makeover in time for spawning. Drained and segregated the fish, installed a new artificial reef to improve spawning results and increase survival odds for this years' stock, Put in the new bridge and reluctantly replaced the duck coop in anticipation of this year's brood.

;D how wonderful do you have problems with cats preying on your fish? My previous garden was an absolute stunner - I had a gardener come in ever 2nd week and a pond guy come in every year around this time - he maintained the water feature we had in our garden - (sigh) it would be stunning in that garden about now.

Our cat is scared of ducks.! The biggest problem our fish face is........our fish. We have 18 breeders, all the size of my hand, and they tend to eat their young, which is why we are trialing the 'reef', a collection of stainless pipework wired together with 1inch mesh, designed to act as a refuge for the smaller fish.

I once had a bonsai vege garden once - it kinda sucked, but thank god the actual bonsai's I looked after where incredible works of art. ;D Yes I can add photos. At the moment all looks a bit scrubby, except of the Chinese garlic I have planted. It grows so well. A while back on TV they said the NZ garlic growers wanted to import larger varieties but they were not allowed by MAF. So tried to grow the huge Chinese garlic you can buy at super markets and they so far grow amasingly - hope they will build nice bulbs.

The Avon river meanders quietly pass our home - you have to cross a small bridge to get to our town(slum) ahem house. I will take a photo of it when its a fine day. ;D
