A while back I collected McD toys. I don't know why!! I have still hundereds of them. My son was so kind and carried them up in the seeling. We leave them there. Maybe in 50 years someone finds them or one day the seeling will collapse!
What makes us collect stuff without thinking? Is it still the hunting/gathering in us?

Yes I look at all my genuine German Beer Steins and wonder how much I would gain if I sold them, would I gain more that what I would if I left my outlay in the bank to accumulate interest? I think I will make a considerable gain if I sold the collection. One alone was in one family for 180 years so that alone would bring me a nice profit.

I have a very large suitcase full of coins and bank notes that I have collected over the years. I would not recommend collecting them if you thinking of a financial gain in the future, some cases you would not get your outlay back. One of my mates also has a large collection and agrees with me its not worth it. For a young person there would be more gain in stamp collecting.

I collect children, I have three boys and two girls. I'm not sure how many it takes to complete the set, but I've decided to give that hobby up for stamp collecting. I inherited by grandfathers and fathers stamp collection, which just sat here for 14 years before I even looked at them. I love relaxing with it, and find myself getting really lost in the history of the stamps. It allows me to stretch my imagination, and being a sociologist, I love to see how what was going on in society affected the designs etc of the stamps at various times. I guess it comes from when we were monkeys, bit pointless collecting nuts and bananas now.

This is my largest one, takes two hands to lift full.LOL I love the brown one on the left, such an elegant uncomplicated shape, nice neutral colour, although I suspect not particularly rare! ;D The others are beautiful.

I have a mate who is an avid stamp collector, he says it a great education tool as you learn a lot about other countries. This is why children are encouraged to take up the hobby.

The auctioneer,(can't remember his name) gave the thumbs down, until he was reminded that people collect owls. LMAO.
