Leigh you are a girl of many talents I see, I wish I could play a musical instrument either guitar or keyboard We have an electric keyboard I might resurrect and try and get music using the letters instead of notes. We had them years ago when the kids were younger but seem to have lost them Then I can accompany ladeda when she plays her ukelele and you can sing

I also play the recorder and that is also an unrated instrument. The recorder was my first instrument and still the one I play the best! In Standard 3 I was picked to play in the recorder ensemble for the ChCh Schools Music Festival. It was quite an honour as it was usually St4, Fm1&2 kids that played. I carried on to play clarinet and flute, but not as well as the old recorder. I was a left handed player but forced to play the correct way for the Town Hall performance. I can still play either hannded now... Only soprano recorder although I was envious of those girls that had alto and bass recorders...

Those were my young days when being an artist was hip and bohemian, then I ended up going out for a scientist for 10 years and my dreams of becoming the next Leigh and the moa hunters was no more but I have very very fond memories of my performance days sweet and unlike some muzo's I kicked around with I have something to show for it and its good to see musicians like Mahina carrying on with that "pure sound"

I like to think of myself as a cross between James Galway/Peter Frampton and Ray Charles (blues fusion) when I play my recorder - actually my recorder has done me proud over the years, one time I took my recorders up to the Devils Punchbowl located in Arthurs Pass - its this fantastic waterfall at the end of a leisurely walk - sat there played my recorder and it echoed all around us - Tourists couldn't believe I was playing a recorder, they thought it was a flute.

PETER SARSTEDT WHERE DO YOU GO TO MY LOVELY 26/02/1969 - 4 weeks at #1 - 16 weeks on chart
You talk like Marlene Dietrich And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire Your clothes are all made by Balmain And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair, yes there are
You live in a fancy apartment Off the Boulevard Saint-Michel Where you keep your Rolling Stones records And a friend of Sacha Distel, yes you do
But where do you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed Tell me the thoughts that surround you I want to look inside your head, yes I do
I've seen all your qualifications You got from the Sorbonne And the painting you stole from Picasso Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does
When you go on your summer vacation You go to Juan-les-Pins With your carefully designed topless swimsuit You get an even suntan on your back and on your legs
And when the snow falls you're found in Saint Moritz With the others of the jet-set And you sip your Napoleon brandy But you never get your lips wet, no you don't
But where do you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed Won't you tell me the thoughts that surround you I want to look inside your head, yes I do
Your name, it is heard in high places You know the Aga Khan He sent you a racehorse for Christmas And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh, a-ha-ha-ha
They say that when you get married It'll be to a millionaire But they don't realize where you came from And I wonder if they really care, or give a damn
Where do you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed Tell me the thoughts that surround you I want to look inside your head, yes I do
I remember the back streets of Naples Two children begging in rags Both touched with a burning ambition To shake off their lowly-born tags, so they try
So look into my face Marie-Claire And remember just who you are Then go and forget me forever But I know you still bear the scar, deep inside, yes you do
I know where you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed I know the thoughts that surround you 'Cause I can look inside your head
(na na-na-na na na-na-na na-na na na na na) (na na-na-na na na-na-na na-na na na na na)

Fantastic Mamamia, I love music that lifts the soul! So much entertainment on this site lately, hardly get time to post these days! ;D That humanism is an interesting concept, worthy of a thread in the philosophy section, methinks, would love to read Cloudhands thoughts on that... Leigh, do you know who Peter Sarstedt is singing about? I haven't studied the lyrics closely enough to figure it out yet, I'm guessing someone famous, a bit like Norma Jean?
