I found this one in tm recipes I was thrilled to bits cos I dont like my loo's being without one,......... " have just used Toilet Duck to refill the small Toilet Duck hanger thingy in the toilet. Used to pay $3.50 each (50ml)and went through about 4 per month in all the toilets we have at work etc. The 500ml bottle cost me $3.45 so thats a huge saving - 9 refills free!! Thanks for the hint"

Another one cos I do a lot of this ,........."this is the best time saving tip EVER how many hours have you spent cracking walnuts to get the nut out of the shell..........WELL if you soak them overnight in salted water then the next day drain and put in a roasting dish on moderate heat for 10 -15 minutes the shells crack open and you can easily remove the nut"

Cheers. Hope I remember when I crack walnuts again. The trouble is that I am getting so forgetful as I get older!

Rough or not its the only positive remedy. They should NEVER been introduced into this country, with all the other vermin we have to contend with.

My tea towels sometimes start to get a bit smelly and grubby even after washing. I filled my largest cooking pot with water and some washing powder and boiled some of them. It is amazing how much dirt came out of "clean" tea towels.

Mis, at the supermarket you can get an animal repellant spray, its in the Pet section, and costs around $6 - $7. It is specifically designed to be used outside, but you do have to re-apply after rain. We used to use it around our windows, as our cat would jump onto the windowsill and scratch the window at 2:00am ... that sound is nearly as bad as fingernails on a blackboard!

Who can help??? We have wood borers in our house and furniture and I am so fed up with them to eat hmy heritage that I want to get rid of them. I have heard the best time to "bomb" them is in November when they start flying.
Who has some hints!??

I take the furniture outside on a fine day and paint with kerosene making sure it goes into the borer holes that will sort them out and they won't come back. The downside is the smell of the kero it can take a while for it to go. Alternatively there is a product that Mitre 10 sells that will do it but its a lot dearer than a bit of kero.

Anybody had some nice solid furniture that has been coated with a dark varnish, spoiling the natural beauty of the timber?? Well I have a double bed with solid oak headboard and kick board that was varnished a horrible dark colour. It would take for ever to sand this out and copious amounts of sand paper. So I got that product called COOPERS well this stuff is expensive, but wow what a great job it does, cleaning it back to the bare timber. This happens virtually in minutes. It does not really need sanding, but I do intend to give this a light sanding with a orbital sander before coating with clear polyurathane. I would recommend this to anyone that has this problem as the time factor alone is well worth the expense, as well as the smooth finish left. ;D ;D

I wondered if it is worth trying but since MD recommends it I wonder no more and will try it one day!!! ;D A friend of mine in Switzerland clears paint from solid wood with some "salt". He mixes it with water and paints this paste on. Afterwards he hoses all off with water from the garden hose. It is a messy job but very cheap especially if you have to do many things. I forgot the name of this salt.

Your a bit late for that Ivyplus as I have them now ready for polyurthaning. Never thought to take pics before I started. But if you imagine a dark varnish almost to the black stage is what they were and now when finished I am aiming for the light golden colour that oak looks like with the clear finish. I have a drop down oak writing desk in my bedroom with the nice golden finish, so I hope to match that. This stuff does not seem to remove stain as thats designed to penetrate into the timber. (Sadly)

(Sadly) No worries, maybe a photo when its finished! It's sad that they stain oak. I love it natural too. Trivia about oak: They started staining oak because (100+ years ago) light wood was the cheaper wood, like pine and oak. And walnut which is naturally dark was more expensive. They started darkening oak by smoking the furniture. Don't ask my how. But that was the beginning to darkening oak.
