Thats how i see it too mamamia - must say you guys have been awesome. Ohh and I better say too here, there is a consenous that it was Oasis' link that got me booted, well ... ummm... his link is free from blame, there was only my clear.net email when it got pulled this time ... so it must have been that ... perhaps I was meant to use a yahoo.com email? However .. I found geocities to have no support at all, I know it was a free account, but if there had been support I probably would have upgraded my account when things started ticking over. So I'm going to throw another one in ... while looking at these other links and see if they pack a tanty again. *grins. After all this i will no longer be a novice I reckon ... still amateur but already I know more than I did a few days ago. Again ... thanks to those who supported me ... this is what a forum is all about. Everything is a learning experience sweet - good or bad. You just gotta hang in there and surround yourself with likeminded people who will encourage and support your efforts despite how negative other people maybe - If this is something you love and believe in I say - GO FOR IT. Leigh ;D

thanks Leigh ... yeah it is one of my passions ... portraiture fills an incredible niche in the market, and considering the state of my health sometimes, its the only thing I can do when I'm not so well ... so that's why I'm finding it really frustrating because my options are limited.
But, when I draw a child who has died or is dying, or a beloved pet its worth all the trouble when people see the sketch. Pretty amazing profession I reckon.

Mmmmmmm.......what art websites do you advertise on sweet? I am going to sign James up to a site called FELT www.felt.co.nz - for the last few months we have gradually introduced his works to the online community and he has been fortunate enough to take part in a number of exhibitions. These opportunities have helped with his confidence as well as broadening his appreciations of other forms of art. He does what he loves and to me that is all that matters - I am happy to assist him with online support and guiding him through this first part of his journey. He thinks your online class concept is brilliant and since he is self taught - anything to help him better his craft only helps him move forward. Leigh

Well even if just ONE person is getting something out of it - it's worth doing. I'm so glad there are even more. I actually want to take this concept alot further ... actually having online classes with a screen I can draw on in real time. Kind of like www.isketch.net. also there is www.theburgg.com but having people enter the class once they have paid and they can draw anytime and show off their own works. yes many small steps does a journey make, if I too can help others take a journey even if its to learn to see the world in a different way then its all worth it. So lets see where this goes huh? I'll check that site out - thanks again.

Ohh i was on NZ's #1 auction site, but I arent allowed to sell portraits ... while I could still sell my already drawn work ... commissions are more of a sure thing. So I'm not really on anything - however I'm attending a biz course in a week and that is going to lead to a few things.

You aren't allowed to sell portraits on tm? How ridiculous.
There must be a way around that. Have you emailed tm about it at all?

100's of times they are sick of me coming up with ways of doing it LOL. Each time they say no - while I have to supply information to start or complete the product they consider it a service.
I've tried vouchers, ive tried taking information and putting up tailored auctions, ive even tried selling my signature with the hope of a free portrait, they pulled stating the free gift is worth more than the acutal auction.
I dont really want to dwell on that site though ... doors are closed there, new doors need to be opened.

So how do other "make to order" dealers get away with it? Something is not right here Manukarose, in my humble opinion. I've seen it repeatedly stated elsewhere that as long as you can produce the product within seven days, then it's OK ? I know one trader that uses the q&a system on all his auctions to discuss the where's and howsyourfathers of the trade, then starts another auction for that trader with a buy now. How is that any different to what you want to do?

Absolutely no difference at all Oasis ... I've even asked if its okay to get orders via question/answer section and then set up other auctions and they have said no. I have repeatedly asked that they pull all auctions that are in the same format, or basically if they don't they are giving me permission by their silence to put my auctions back up. So I think they need to again review their made to order policy.
Made to order policy clearly states: You can if you have the materials to make the product and if you can supply within ONE week. Then they've added, if your buyer has to supply information to start/finish your product ie: Photo and as they have quoted to me, information such as DOB, NAME, OR specific measurements ie: Wedding dresses, gates and the like then they would be in breach. They are the only Auction site I know of that don't allow this. Ebay allows them. But again I dont wish to dwell on TM as perhaps they are doing me a favour if you ponder their fees and the like.
I will make it, on my own if I have to.

;D I think I suggested elsewhere that Ebay may be better, at least you would be getting World Wide coverage. But I also realise you have a wee hitch with that idea. But it will get sorted I am sure.

Just an update: I have been quoted around $1,400 for a website - this includes though - logo creation - Up to four pages of gallery - guestbook - domain name - one years hosting - 24/7 help. So just waiting to see if I can go with this option - should know by the 5th - quite exciting huh?

re: Ebay - I was on there previously but had to borrow a CC from a friend to go via paypal. But once I have my biz set up properly - my website will be getting wwide coverage and also I can go onto ebay independantly of anyone else. Didn't get many views on there - the hits on Ebay are based on people coming on and knowing what they are looking for rather than the browsing I think goes on with TM. I had about 16 views on ebay in one week - on TM I could have 60-80 views with 2-3 expressing interest and at least one sale. However I think marketing has a strong influence there too and I have lots of ideas.
Im yabbering - i think ill go do some stuff.

Like all ventures persistance is the key. Some people really need brain washing before it clicks. This could have something to do with all the brain washing they get through junk mail and other spiel that we are confronted with these days. In other words its a battle of the wits who takes the carrot and who ignores it. LOL. You do have something worth flogging.

Okay - while awaiting for the rest of my biz venture to come together, I have been working on my 'paid' version of my online artclasses. This I am doing via MSN groups that will be linked to my website. (I hope I can do that) Now ... this won't be launched until my website is launched and in the meantime would love the input of YOP members as to how to set up ... I am about 1/2 way there. So if you want to help out until it is launched that would be awesome. Some points to realise though: Because it is a paid site ... your membership will only last until the launch. (2 months?) Membership will be free for YOP members until the launch, just so I can get some feedback on what I am doing. So when you sign up can you please tell me who you are on YOP. I will send a private message via YOP just to confirm its you before I accept. (I will be continuing the unpaid version on YOP of my classes for you guys - this group is more for international artists - however I want and need some constructive criticsm which will be wonderful). The link is : groups.msn.com/ManukarosesOnlineArtClasses/_whatsnew.msnw

Taking my time to explore your new site Mands, it looks very professional and gives me a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve there, love your work, have thought of a few "tricks-of-the-trade" that you might like to apply, quick question, are you saving your written material offline as well?
In my opinion it is very well written material, so don't forget to back up to your hard drive.
