I bought a beef roast and I don't know how to do it! (I am a vegetarian!) Would a cast iron pot do? What shall I exactly do?

;D I just roast them Ivyplus reasonablly slow. (Depends if it is a cheap cut it will need slow cooking to make tender of a more expensive cut can be cooked faster. I would not recommend boiling as it seems to taste like cork to me. Place veges around it half way through cooking.

If you have a cast iron pot with a lid that would be great as it will partially steam as well.

I agree with MD - NEVER boil the meet unless its a silverside. get a bit of olive oil, garlic, herbs however you wish to season it (god my mouth is watering) roast slowly and gently (hahaha) maybe an hour into cooking place lovingly (haha) place into the dish, kumara, yams, potato, whatever yummy veges. Inspect the meat - when serving let it sit for 5-10 mins depending on the size of the roast - be sure when serving that the meat is pinkish - pinkish is good - actually MEAT is great (hahaha) with the juices from the meat mix in with your gravy le voila one amazing kiwi roast. Recommended side dishes: Yorkshire pudding Honey/mustard glazed carrots Buttered corn minted peas Home made stuffing if you wish. MEAT The breakfast of champions since ages ago....

Thanks so much both of you! Lucky Rawinia my sons girl friend just arrived back home. She is now in charge of the meat. I am a shocking cooker of meat and I am surprised that any meat eaters are staying around me!

Hahaha Ivy - I love both vegetables and meat - VERY MUCH. I love chickens - as pets and as food but does that make me a bad person (hahaha). God I haven't heard the name Rawinia for years - Its best a meat lover should handle the roast beef but I find that as I am typing this to you I am thinking about lovely skippy (sniff sniff) god it feels so bad to love meat (sigh) Forgive me sweet - I'm obviously in a quirker than usual mood. I think I am in a very happy one today. And about being a vegetarian. I am not an extremist of a vegetarian. Since I am a toddler I don't like meat. Sometimes I do and then I eat it. I didn't give it up but I call myself a vegetarian.

Actually I can go for long periods without eatting meat but when I have a craving for it - bring on the sausages (haha) - My partner is such a typical kiwi bloke who LOVES his meat and three veg and its been a job trying to educate him that you don't have to eat half a side of beef every day - that there are actually beautiful dishes that can be served without having to consume meat all the time.
