Used to luv them, but sadly I was poisoned by some, I purchased at the super market and yes thats put me off. I could understand getting a rogue one if I had picked them from the wild but cultivated ones? So enjoy, and I hope no one goes thru what I did.

Mushroom season is back, Mmmmmmmmmm, mmmmmm! Picked the first handful today, and a quick scan of the paddock tells me tomorrow morning is going to be a bumper crop, with HEAPS of little buds popping up.

I hope we grow as much as we did last year, look at the first post and the date on this thread. Also, mushroom season also means mushroom season, if you know what I mean, so be careful out there!

About 4 weeks ago I had over 30 come up in the same place as last year, so I left them to spread their spawn so next lot should be greater. Hope I start to like them again by then. LOL

Unfortunately this years crop seems to be overcome by a little flea like parasite. I'm tempted to just cook the little buggers along with the mushrooms, they even survived a day in the fridge. "Miniscule jumpy bugs called Springtails -- such as the highly magnified Culture Louse (Onychiurus folsomi) pictured on the left run a close second for most likely to be found on/in a mushroom..." You eat the mushrooms that grow in you're lawn? Ours get mowed over, always thought they were poisonous?

Should not really make any difference where they grow, so long as they are proper mushrooms and not another fungi that could be poisionous. Some say don't eat them if they grow under trees, but I have and still here to tell all about it. LOL. Have had them come up right up close to my abelia hedge and they were o.k. I got very ill a couple of years ago, but those were ones I purchased from the supermarket, so I am off the mushies for the time being.

Oooh, well, unfortunately I can't tell the difference between the poisonous and non-poisonous varieties, so in my case, discretion is the better part of valour.

Yes, it's best to err on the side of caution if you don't know for sure Jenn, but yes, these mushrooms do grow out in our paddocks, and the occasional spot on the lawn.
