Nooooooo not a doggy ... would love a puddy cat but I won't have any more cats, mainly because they kill too many native birds. Meet Austen everyone! He is named after Jane Austen, my favourite author. My husband bought him for me for our 11th anniversary. He is a blue faced parakeet and has the most gorgeous colours!

He has been rather quiet so far, we only got him yesterday and he is still getting used to us. He has made a couple of 'chirps' and they don't appear to be too 'screechy' lol.
I know what you mean about cockateils ... my mother has one and he is LOUD!! he also mimics very well and has the sound of the phone down pat. Whenever he sees anyone eating something that he likes, he 'rings' until either he gets what he wants or mum covers him up.

Yep my wonderful husband knows I love birds and he hunted high and low for this one!
Austen is starting to get more used to us, and getting very chirpy. I want to train him to climb onto my finger whenever I hold it out to him, and teach him to say 'hello'.

Ok a bit of an update ... Austen is actually a Turquoisine! Apparently they don't talk, so all my high pitched 'Whos a pretty boy' is rather useless lol.
He is slowly getting used to us, and comes quite close to me sometimes. They are ground parrots and like to forage, so we have to be careful where we walk ... but he makes a good vacuum cleaner lol!

I had a cockateil a few years back that whistled happy birthday to you and also wolf whistled. Unfortunately when I wanted to put him out on the terrace it had to be after the kids had gone to school as he only wolf whistled at the boys so I had to keep an eye on the clock and get him in before 3. I did get caught out sometimes when the kids were let out early.LOL
