So I decided to brag about some of my past projects,I hope we have some people that can show off their creations. This one was taken from a full size advert in the Herald for the National Bank so I copied it then sold it to our local branch manager. LOL.

I did this for myself, and it was all carved from one piece of Kauri.

However as I know you like Ships, you may like this... Carved on a shell in the early 1940's... My Dad got it when he was stationed in the Cook Is during the War...

I had to give up a lot of that work as I have problems with both my arms where heavy lifting of routers and sudden jarring when chiselling is far to painful. I also did several bar leans for our RSA and other razzas with the memorabilia was set into the timber below the surface and then covered in liquid glass. I will see if I can scan some pics of those.

This one has been put on its side to have the legs fitted. It is deplicting the Vietnam War, in the centre (bit hard to see) is a map of Vietnam.

I can not recall which one this is. The pic was taken in my workshop before being sent away to have the liquid glass applied.

This one is the second world war Japan. The Samurai Sword it the real one,not a replica. I had to be so careful handling it as the edge was so sharp one could almost shave with it.

Now this is my real pride and joy. It is 2 metres long x 900 mm wide and 75 mm thick swamp kauri. I was commissioned to do this by the Korean Vets. It is displayed at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.

great stuff, MD. I used to hate working with swamp Kauri - seemed to take years and years to stop moving around For the routing, did you make jigs or take a few deep breaths and try sticking to the lines traced on the slab - scarey stuff, freehanding At least it's Kauri and quite predictable to route I suppose. My fave Native is Totora but that takes soooooo long to season/dry properly. That and making anything from timber fished out of jumbo bins that would otherwise be dumped
