;D Well what can I say about this amazing talent you have, thats some great work Pene. Where do you source your timber from??
I must check out a couple of pieces of a tree that was cut up about 15 years ago and I painted the ends with end seal wax. It has been stored in my garage ever since so it should be nice and dry. Rule of thumb is for timber to dry naturally it takes 1 year for every inch (25mm) of diameter.

Most of the wood was giving to me by my tutor and mentor Derek Kerwood. The piece of dutch elm that the masai warrior is carved out of, was a terrible piece of wood, and it split right through the middle of the head not long after I carved him. So I put it in a plastic bag with water and left if for about 3 weeks............ then I let it dry slowly. It turned out as you see it now............... I have lots of bits of wood....... but I can't see me carving too much more

You are VERY talented, Pene. I think your carving is even better than your painting. I like the snail, too.

I think they are all awesome my favourite being the bird in the hand - its very poignant and the snail and the African Figure - because i see emotion in it.
Wow ... I can't say much more honestly.

I love the sparrow, would you sell that one??? A dear friend of mine in Hamilton always admired the Bird in Hand........ so it now graces her coffee table.......... on lifelong loan. I was offered $3000.00 for the Masai Warrior but I won't sell him. I copied him from Ian Norbury's work............. because I will never be able to afford a piece of his........... they start at $45000.00!!!! www.iannorbury.com/I was lucky enough to attend a week-end workshop run by him........that's when I did the warrior......... he told me it was a rubbish piece of wood and to bin it!!! It got a 2nd place in a NZ competition. My tutor won with a bust of a bust!!! Himself said the judge was obviouslt a tit man!!!
