There are plenty of different styles and applications of rules. I'm wondering what those in here consider acceptable and any initiatives they would consider worthwhile. Essentially just wishing to instigate dialogue on what aspects of forum moderation members like and dislike, and their reasons why. There are forums like PB where very little moderation happens. There is TM where the community supposedly moderates. There is Z where mods do the business. Others where the owners decide it's their sandpit and they’ll do what they like. Others where true majority dictates policy. Some have features that allow members to blank-list posters so these posters posts are not viewable to them when they read a thread. Is community voting a good idea but is there any realistic way to avoid it being abused by the freaking thin skinned or supposed adults who must have been fiddled with as kids and need to vote others into the ether and the feeling of power they get from it What say you?

I think if someone has taken the initiative to make up a site and puts all the work in, then it should be ultimately up to that person to put in place systems that would acheive his/her goal. Having said that, I would not like to be part of a site where it is heavily moderated and moderation should only be instigated when it is affecting the community as a whole.
I'd be happy to stay in the background, but do think it's my place to speak up if someone is being continually targeted instead of the threads staying topical. ie: Religion - great to debate and respect others beliefs, but should not be any name calling just because someone is different.
So in a nutshell - moderation should be seen on the boards but not tyrancy, just enough to let those know who have abusive ideas that this isn't the forum to do that sort of thing. Just my opinion as always.

At some stage, someone or multiples thereof will test the moderation ethos in here. I guess that is only a matter of time. And there is never any possible way of keeping everyone happy, all the time. So, as long as you guys keep kissing my R's, to hell with the rest of 'em. lol.

Didn't Oasis tell you guys? The advanced moderator is some fat old guy who wears a red suit ... and NEVER comes onto the boards, but we poor moderators get all the blame for the havoc he causes.

Just thought it was warning to all and sundry that a particularly heavy handed moderation style prevailed in that mb topic. But now i see it was a teaser from up high - i clicked it but I have no admin functions so can't do anything. Nor do I want any. Nice try, but no deal . I rather prefer the 'ignorance is bliss' mantra and have no desire for any "power" as it applies to this MB. The run of the mill YOP leech tag sits rather nicely with me thanks.
