Sad to have this bridge in a state of will or won't it stay.
We here in Papakura have a similar problem on a lot smaller scale. They are modernising the railway station and surrounding area. What I am annoyed about is the old overhead footbridge that is in a state of disrepair. The so called city fathers want to preserve this at a cost of approx 1.5 million dollars to be dumped on the rate payers. This bridge will also have to be lifted higher to accommodate the electrification of the tracks. When they say 1.5 million, it will be more like 2.5 million, from past experiences. This is the email I sent the local paper after they asked for comments.
Dear Sir, I am appalled that these city fathers have come up with another 'hair brained' idea. It just does not seem to sink into their heads, the ratepayers are not a bottomless money pit. That bridge should go to the scrap yard with the councillors that came up with this idiotic idea. I am getting sick of the way our rates are being squandered.

So they are only doing it for aesthetic reasons Capt?
Or would they need to build another one anyway?

sometimes wonder how councils are run.... real struggle to get anything done up here that is off the main track - like street lights in our street... "sorry we are very busy" - so am I!!! and if I'd tell my customer to stick it up their rear... not sure how long I would be in business

Manuela I would have thought lack of street lighting was an safety issue and should get top priority.

Why oh why can't these bloody idiots drive slower in bad weather. I am starting to get the Police Media emails of prangs in different parts of Jaffaland. Totally unneccesssary trauma for lots of people. Manuella, how did you get on with the council regarding the street lighting, or is that a silly question? ?

Manuela, how did you get on with the council regarding the street lighting, or is that a silly question? ? still NOT fixed.... BUT they fixed the huge slip across the road from us (undermined road - has a huge dip in it now) - fixed it by putting up some orange fence thingy.....

Watch that undermine does not give way, it could be dangerous. They need me up there to sort them out I would not put up with that, the media would find out in one big hurry. Afterall they are grabbing heaps of rates, and possibly spending it over the way.

MD... this is only one of several undermining slips... there is a VERY dangerous one on the State Highway to Paihia, only a matter of time until someone gets badly hurt as for the one in front of our house... only a matter of time until the road will go down the hill, too many trucks etc on this road anyway shame, they also told us that the rates will go up after the two storms...
