You're right Aglarana, my mistake. I was more thinking about my own spiel on the subject, before taking your post into full consideration. It's ok. *dabs at imaginary tears* ;D

Hi Oasisnz. Do you see my point about kids on the net? Or do you agree with aglarana that you can give them a free reign on the net? I just think it has more drawbacks than good points. The possibilities I mean. What do you think? Hi Josh, personally I'd be more inclined to align with your point of view.

The possibilities I mean. What do you think? You remind me of someone else who likes to take my posts out of context, completely fabricate facts, and tries to cause dissension between people. Hmmm. Let me think. Try reading the posts, take some time to actually figure out what's being said, THEN reply. Kay? Really? What did I make up aglarana? This is a section for parenting is it not? I am giving my opinion and yes it is an opposing one to yours. I am maybe more old fassioned? Lets not have a fallout already aglarana. We have only just met.

Ok. My temper has come back down. So I'll try to put this whole internet thing into perspective.
I trust my 14 year old to use msn, e-mail, bebo, and the auction sites in a responsible manner. He hasn't given me any reason NOT to trust him. He voluntarily gave me his passwords, and leaves his pages up...because he has no problem with me talking to his friends or browsing his conversations. Kee is also a Geek, and he's proud of it. I don't know about smaller towns or Cities, but Auckland schools set a fair bit of assignments that depend on Internet research. Every school that my 3 older sons go to teach the kids how to use the Internet responsibly, and teach them the dangers of Strangers on the Net.
Now... just to really throw a spanner in the works, my 4 year old son roams the Net to his hearts delight. He loves Google, and uses it to get Dreamworks images and sites.

I don't know about everyone else but I often want to pull my hair out over conflicts with my teen. Can we share advice and ideas about getting through the teenage years? The good news is my mother survived it and I'm planning on following suit. i have a teenage son and bought up another three teenagers, what would you like to know? I have a 15 yr old daughter Lorry, who is a social butterfly always has been, 15 yr old girls are silly, when they are together they get sillier, how do I survive the headaches? On the otherhand she is very bright and breezes through her schoolwork and all her teachers think shes lovely but shes saves her 'lip' for me. And she doesn't want to hang with us anymore as a family, that really upsets me though I know its normal, so I'll get over that. It's just the attitude, drives me nuts.

Both my kids are also very learned on the use of the net including from school and they do most of their homework on our PC but they are not allowed on any chat sites, fullstop. I think that is fair but of course it is up to you what you allow your kids to do. cheers

how do I survive the headaches? Here's something my mum used to repeat to herself whenever my sister or myself gave her grief... "She'll have a daughter one day". Unfortunately for mum, we have had 7 boys between us, and no girls. But I think we are the exception.

All my Kids are over 20 so my Opinion doesnt count... Your Opinions count more than ours, snooka. The thread topic is support, and surely you can offer the benefit of your experience. Especially teens. What not to do, what to do, different approaches, that sort of thing.
