I'm not fussed. I would be happy either way, as long as they are good at their job.

Our two boys are going to Waitaki Boys. Well one is there and the other goes next year because they have mostly male teachers. We have seen what we think are problems at our local high school that we think would not exist if they had more male teachers.
I'm talking discipline here.
The boy at Waitaki now says that there are almost no fights. The local high school here has fights every day and some amongst the girls and some quite vicious but Waitaki Boys is a far bigger school too so there you go.

I think with a lot of kids coming from one parent families they would benefit more with a male teacher. There are kids out there that dont have any contact with adult males be they boys or girls and men teachers would certainly bring more discipline in their lives which a lot of them need especially at high school level.

Well I`m sure statisically there would be more solo mothers than fathers bringing up kids.

my children attended primary school during the good quality teacher era ,.. male or female ,...and then attended an all girls high as my son an allboys high ,...it never did them any harm to have either sex for teachers and I knew each of thier teachers all their school days ,.....I have a fifteen yr old girl who's specialising in maths and her teacher for such is male,.... it always seems to be males who teach maths and she excels under his care ,..

You're right there...always does seem to be males who teach maths do you think it has something to do with the differences in the way men and women think as to why it seems to generally be males who teach maths...or are they just brighter? nahhhhhhhh. ;D

I think this is an excellent point and one worth researching...could be happening already but I haven't looked into it. With the current make up of families that could well be true. I think its a shame that there are fewer male teachers now than there used to be and I wonder what would entice men back into the industry. I think its good to have a balance A male perspective back into our classrooms.
