Awesome ! We saw (and drove over) some similar bridges in Europe, if I can find some pics of the viaduct bridges I took I will post them up.

I believe there is another route you can take to avoid that bridge, but the bridge apparently cuts about 40-odd minutes off the trip. Previously you had to wind your way down into the valley - through a tiny town and then back up the other side. I found it on the TMMB

I think I would rather drive the extra 40 minutes myself. Otherwise I would spend far too much time looking over the edge rather than where I was driving.

It don't look anymore dangerous than most driving routes. I've been on bridges before, they don't scare me.

The boys from Top Gear drove a Zonda, Ferrari, and Ford GT across that bridge. It was awesome. If I could afford a Zonda, I would definitely top it out over that bridge. Apparently the wind tunnels throw some extra speed behind you. 214mph max with added natural assistance? Oh yeah baby. Take me there. ;D

Kiwi's will never see that sort of structure here, there is to much pussy footing around with a second harbour crossing in Auckland. Thats been going on for years. Just an interesting point, Sir Reg Savory tried very hard to get a canal cut thru from the Tamaki River into the Manukau Harbour and another over Waiku to the Waikato River, so freight could be barged from Auck to Hamiton. No he was cried down, so now we have heaps of trucks pounding shit out of the roads 24/7. Sir Dove Myer Robinson tried his best to get light rail in Auckland and he was cried down. These examples were many years ago, now it will cost many billions to get started, in fact many millions just to get the plans drawn up and Resource Consent. No one had any vision except the 2 I have mentioned.

Wonder long it took to build? Looks stunning, it'll keep the adrenalin pumping while driving over it.
