I like the way some people try to justify their anti-smoking stance with references to passive smoking, but don't actually understand that wer have been poisoned to a worse extenct since the first petrol fueled vehicles were mass produced to the General public.
That aside...
Is your offer of tobacco seeds still available, Oasis?
PS:mpg, it is illegal to sell homegrown tobacco, but it isn't illegal to grow for personal consumption(I think).

Could I ask you to do something please? Count how many of the people you know that suffer/ed ill health and early death but didn't smoke... I don't know if it's just me, but I've come across a hell of a lot of people in my life that have suffered ill health and early death without smoking being a factor at all. What I reckon is, you get old, and/or sick, and/or have an accident, and you die. If it's your tar choked lungs that go first, then so be it. Anyway, this is the sell section, not the philosophy section, LOL! There is no doubt that non-smokers die too! Unfortunately, it's the nicotine in tobacco that causes heart disease (I know - I work with it everyday). It's not the other 256 chemicals that get added although I'm sure that they are not good for ones health. Tar is found in all sorts of smoke and that is what can clog up the lungs. Lung cancer is the easy way out - try living with emphysema. It's not a nag, just getting the facts right so that the smokers can have an informed choice. And that's what it is in the end - personal choice. BTW Did you know.... if you stop smoking, your chances of a heart attack drop by 50%. There is no diet or drug or other lifestyle change that can achieve those same dramatic results. Another little known fact - 40% of all people with coronary artery disease (clogging up of the hearts arteries) will have sudden death as their first symptom. ;D

OK, the nicotine might be the killer, (do you have a link to any documented evidence?) but it's the chemicals keeping them addicted! Grow your own, I guarantee you will either give up, or smoke a hell of a lot less! I'll get some seedlings started for D. Karen, they'll grow well on the banks of the Brook, LOL! Don't be lazy smokers, grow your own, free seeds to whoever asks in the next 24 hours.

I'm sure I could never find enough evidence to convince you, O, and I sincerely hope you never have to find out the hard way.
I once grew a tobacco plant up the Brook and it was a very pretty plant. I had no idea what to do with it once it reached maturity so I let it die. I'd love to grow some seeds on the riverbank. When do you plant them???

Not sure Dave, I assume it will grow anywhere you can grow plants like tomatoes, hops and hooch, The longer the season, the better the crop. Motueka was the tobacco growing capital of New Zealand, the river silt soil is ideal, and Mot enjoys one of, if not the, highest sunlight hours in the country. Best to get them started early, and plant them out as soon as the last frosts are over. If you get frosts all year round, you're buggered!

Inside with plenty of heat lamps, same as the 'electric puha' cultivation.

Like grains of sand! Another tip I just thought of, hope you haven't started already, do try and spread them out over the soil, as it makes for separating them later a lot easier, (ie., unless you have a huge area for propagating, you have thousands more seeds than you really need, I made this mistake the first time, by planting too many too close together) mixing the seed with a little sand first is a good trick... Make sure it's good clean sand though, they are a bit susceptible to mould. Good luck, the hardest part is getting them going, keep moist, but not too moist for fear of mould, but certainly never let the surface of the soil dry out, it sucks the life right out of the tiny seedlings. That's another tip from personal experience. Use a spray bottle to always keep it finely misted...

OK, I just got some seeds started, the darker brown patches you can see in the pic is where the seeds are a bit too concentrated, I have an abundance of seed, so went a bit silly, just grabbed a handful and sprinkled them all over the tray.. Will keep you updated on progress.
