Written by jimmy webb, ©1982 Music by AMERICA When the last eagle flies over the last crumbling mountain And the last lion roars at the last dusty fountain In the shadow of the forest though she may be old and worn They will stare unbelieving at the last unicorn When the first breath of winter through the flowers is icing And you look to the north and a pale moon is rising And it seems like all is dying and would leave the world to mourn In the distance hear the laughter of the last unicorn Im alive, Im alive When the last moon is cast over the last star of morning And the future has passed without even a last desperate warning Then look into the sky where through the clouds a path is torn Look and see her how she sparkles, its the last unicorn Im alive, Im alive The Song - By Americawww.youtube.com/watch?v=tweZLEuAf0k&feature=relatedTo listen to the song please click on the link above - thank you.

E-MAIL TO CARL ....
My goodness, perhaps we have met, I came up from Christchurch to attend the tangi, I am so glad you made contact. I'm from Palmerston North originally but I've lived in Christchurch since 93 - I love it down here. Actually I'm vaguely familiar with your relationship with aunty, the aunties spoke very kindly of you.
It would appear that we were both taken under my auntie's wing for I looked at her as a mentor and although I only spent one summer in my early teens up the river with my family, I have such profound memories of the people, the culture and the mystery of the place.
Many years later I would manage a sizable property on the outskirts of Christchurch, which I lovingly refer to this day as "THE HOMESTEAD". Kit and Fiona are from Singapore and they gave me the keys to this utopian property where I could go in the weekends to escape the city and re-energise. At that time I lead a very busy, hectic, and cluttered business life.
The property was an organic farm with free-range animals most importantly Kit's bonsai nursery for which I was responsible. After hours of working on the land I would spend many evenings watching the pinkish golden sun melt away into the horizon feel slightly closer to a supreme being and remember the river and all that my aunty had taught me.
Memories of my family are not far from my heart and when I think back to that time when life was simple, I truly felt a sense of community and belonging and loved the history of the church the nuns and all the people who lived in the light of Jerusalem. Yes I'm glad you made contact with me Mr Stapleton and look forward to sharing new memories and experiences with you sir.
Kindest regards
Leigh Taiwhati

Freedom Song
As the darken sky surrounds me I can hear the gentle rolling of the waves I close my eyes so I can visualise I can see and feel your touch upon my face
Chorus
My spirit is rising just like a bird in flight the spirit of my soul it lives within the night and if I should find you in the same dreams as me cast aside your differences and feel the power
of being free.... to be free....
People come and make their own lives there's nothing like the sound of a new born child my future is like a road that never ends the sun will rise and a new day will begin
Chorus
My spirit is rising just like a bird in flight the spirit of my soul it lives within the night and if I should find you in the same dreams as me cast aside your differences and feel the power
of being free.... to be free....
Bridge
I look into the distant sky and I'll tell you what I see rolling mountains crystal waters deep blue ocean seas tommorrow is a new day I was born to be me no one can harness the power to live and be free....
Chorus
My spirit is rising just like a bird in flight the spirit of my soul it lives within the night and if I should find you in the same dreams as me cast aside your differences and feel the power
of being free.... to be free....

Breathe - Maria Mckee At first I was scared when I opened up my head and the motor that was running was the mind of you I was scared when I looked at my reflection and the shine I saw were the eyes of you I was scared when you touched my lips and the breath I took was the breath that shook me with a shock Like a flame as eternal as the song and the song is you And I will let you breathe through me I will let you be with me Whenever I'm alone and you're lost out there I can feel you breathe 'cause our lungs we share When I'm alone anytime, anywhere I can feel your heart beat 'cause our blood we share I was scared when you came into the room the walls became the sea, your voice was the moon Oh, and when you rocked me in your arms like a song, a wave on the tide of you Chorus My heart beats your blood Your breath fills my lungs Your heart beats my blood My breath fills your lungs I was scared when you came into the room the walls became the sea, your voice the moon Oh, and when you rocked me in your arms... Be with me Chorus BREATHEwww.youtube.com/watch?v=iy5j2xNSHBE

Dog & Butterfly - HeartThere I was with the old man Stranded again so off I'd ran A young world crashing around me No possibilities of getting what I need He looked at me and smiled Said no, no, no, no, no child. See the dog and butterfly. up in the Air he like to fly. dog and butterfly Below she had to try. she roll back down To the warm soft ground laughing She don't know why, she don't know why Dog and butterfly Well I stumbled upon your secret place Safe in the trees you had tears on your face Wrestling with your desires frozen strangers Stealing your fires. the message hit my mind Only words that I could find See the dog and butterfly Up in the air he like to fly Dog and butterfly below she had to try She roll back down to the warm soft ground Laughing to the sky, up to the sky Dog and butterfly We're getting older the world's getting colder For the life of me I don't know the reason why Maybe it's livin' making us give in Hearts rolling in taken back on the tide We're balanced together ocean upon the sky Another night in this strange town Moonlight holding me light as down Voice of confusion inside of me No begging to go back where I'm free Feels like I'm through Then the old man's words are true See the dog and butterfly Up in the air he like to fly Dog and butterfly, below she had to try She roll back down to the warm soft Ground with a little tear in her eye She had to try, she had to try Dog and butterfly Dog & Butterfly - Heartwww.youtube.com/watch?v=wSfrO5PAhH4

Spanish Versionwww.youtube.com/watch?v=qDOUwA_90BI&feature=relatedEnglish performed by Los Lobos:In the sunlight of your smile In the summer of our life In the magic of love Storms above scattered away Lovers dreaming in the night Reaching for Paradise But as the dark shadows fade Love slips away On an empty stretch of beach In the pattern of the waves Drawing pictures with my hand In the sand, I see your face Skipping pebbles on the sea Wishing for Paradise Sand castles crumble below The restless tides ebb and flow Listening to a shell Hoping for your voice Beautiful Maria of my soul Though we'll always be apart Locked forever in a dream If I ever love again Even then, nothing will change And the taste of you remains Clinging to Paradise But as the distance from you grows All that my heart ever knows Hunger for your kiss Longing for your touch Beautiful Maria of my soul Filling all my nights Haunting all my days Beautiful Maria of my soul. Copyright 94 Pounamu Album Leigh Taiwhati Excellent thread Leigh, did you write and compose some music for this piece? I started something of my own once, many moons ago now, I really should pick up the guitar again and finish my song... Harmony I hear the sound, of the crashing of the waves As they pound upon the shore I see the stars, that illuminate the sky Hundreds, thousands, millions and more Satellites, and shooting stars across the sky And I'm just sittin' here wonderin' why Why can't we, all live in harmony I'm sure we could if we just tried... (there was more, it may come to me whilst I milk the cow, brb )

So which are your lyrics? You are very clever with words. I have been reading some of your contributions elsewhere and it's been very entertaining. I was recommended to visit and thoroughly enjoyed your musings. Do you have any of your songs uploaded to listen to? Sorry, I haven't had time to follow all your links so maybe you can point in the general direction...

I can assure you that who I am on YOP and who I am in "the other place" are two completely different people - I would never talk to a member of YOP with such disrespect - I save all that for "THE PIT" Thank you La for your kind words. By Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806-1861) How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with a passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

GLORY be to God for dappled things— For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow; For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim; Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings; Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough; 5 And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim. All things counter, original, spare, strange; Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?) With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim; He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change: 10 Praise him. Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–89). Poems. 1918.

The year's at the spring And day's at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hill-side's dew-pearled The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn; God's in his Heaven - All's right with the world! Robert Browning (1812-1889) Pippa Passes (1841) pt. 1,l.221
