Is one of about 1000 words invented by William Shakespeare.
The average citizen has a vocab of around 2,500 words, Shakespeare's vocab is found to be around 29,000 words.
Or something like that, about 10 times as many words as the average punter uses on a daily basis.
There is a brilliant show on Radio Live on a Saturday morning where James Coleman gets in Max Cryer, the bloke that wrote the book about words, and how they originated, this weekend they repeated a show I had heard before, it was amazing to hear how many common phrases are also attributed to Uncle Will...

Lewis Carroll also created many words, such as "chortled" "galumphing" "frabjous" ... and the word Jabberwocky (which was the name of the poem those other words came from) is often used to refer to nonsense language.
