I basically agree.. Although the higher income people should pay a portion of the cost.. Even though they pay more in Tax.

Still need to charge the visitors to this country and they ALL should have medical insurance.

Have to agree with you MD
The debts written off by the DHBs for treating visitors means that we wind up paying for them

Yes my ex worked as head cashier at Middlemore Hospital and it was a shocker what us taxpayers paid for due to lies told by patients. One that really stuck out in my mind was a fella from the islands who needed surgery. He was not a NZ resident, but his brother was, so he faked is ID and said he was his brother. This was discovered about 5 mins before he was wheeled into the theatre. If he had died due to the wrong medical notes being used, the family would have been up in an uproar. They would have been seeking compo off the taxpayers for his stupidity.

I was bought up in a neighbourhood where people knew the next door family - we all played together regardless of race/age/sex - when someone in our neighbourhood was sick we all knew and our families made an effort to make sure that a hand was extended to the person, came in the gift of a prepared meal, hanging out washing or simply sitting with someone. Our little kiwi neighbourhood wasn't perfect, kids bullied each other - but our parents soon put a stop to that behaviour and in the end we would end up all playing again regardless of what went on before. HOPE Misilon - there is always HOPE that my small action may have a ripple effect on someone else - no we can't change the world but we can influence the people that we come into contact with. Sorry just feeling reflective. Leigh
