... is a very important part of the day for me. Even at our place it is some modern way of eating together and watching tv together. I would love to have heaps of people for diner and sit and discuss things.
I remember my great aunty (she died not long ago nearly 104y old) she told me about diners they had. She said they had very interesting people for diner and she was only a teenager I guess it was around WWI and she was listening to interesting views. She said she was just listening.
What do we miss out on in our modern days!? It can't compare with TV.

I miss those days when we all sat down at our family table discussing the day - Our father was always seated at the head and our mother would hurry herself with feeding her brood - I don't know how they managed to do it back then 8 girls 1 boy.
Now its dinner in front of the pc or tv
I should reinitiate family dinners every weekend.

I agree Ivyplus It always used to be a time of sharing the events of the day.
Just after the war (I'm ancient) there were regular power cuts in the evening and we used to sit around the kitchen table playing cards by candlelight and warming our toes near the coal range. Either that, or using a toasting fork on the open fire in the lounge and competing with cats on the floor to see who could get closet to the fire. Very precious times for the whole family

Dinner is the main family event of the day. As a family, the four of us share the responsibilitis for cooking, and clearing the meal. For 2 hours a day, the tv is off, and we work as a team.
There's nothing so important on the box between 5.30 and 7.30 that we can't survive without it.
