hi there yopees!!
hope everyone is in good spirits.... sorry bout the pun, which youll recoginze by the end of this post...
i assume most of u are aware of the tragedies and injustice surrouding all of NZ's mental institutions...
shocking stories have sprung up all over the country... including a place which i consider the scariest place ive ever been to ... a wee valley at the back of Stoke, Nelson named Ngawhatu..
the most striking stories arent ones tht make the papers... theyr the ones of the hauntings iv heard from soo many people.
i myself have witnessed some happenings up there.. not ur classics floating ghosts.... but i have heard definate screams.. herd by all 5 of us (2 of whom, deeply skeptical) as we were standing in a paddock at the back of the childrens ward...
and have witnessed several cows running round their paddock distressed, even breaking a large branch off a tree... but were completely silent as they were running round wildly... (i dont know many cows personally, but i wouldv expected some kind of noises if they were charging round their paddock) this left me and a mate who was about 20meters ahead of me frozen in fear.. ill never forget the feeling.. of litterally not being able to move... just planted in the driveway leading up to the childrens ward... my mate said he heard a young girls voice say something to him which came from the paddock of cows...
once we could move again we just boltd down to the road...
this put a stop to us going up ther again... but then a year or so later the buildings were to be demolished and RESIDENTIAL HOUSES built up ther for crying out loud!!!...
just to recap the history of this place -- im told it began as some kind of burial ground for maoris. which is fari enuf given tht it is actually a beautiful lookin valley and the fact tht nelson was a bit of a haven.. then in the early 20th century an orphange was built up there.. where terrible stuff happend ... lots of childrens death got put down to pnemonia or stuff like tht but then the records show tht many deaths were "unrecorded" then the valley became host to a "lunatic asylum" where basically anyone who society couldnt handle were chuckd into, tortured, experiemnted on, abused and murdered... many didnt even have a mental illness.. but most do nowadays. this place was only shut down around 2001 or sumthing..
but anyway, iv heard many a story of hauntings and abuse, many a tragedy, and witnessed things myself to know tht this place needs to be dealt with in some way or another...
to rebuild a community up ther seems relatively absurd.. i alreay have heard of people witnessing things... selfharming and even developing a disorder tht seemd to start from a night at one of the new houses in tht valley...
anyway... this place has an unforgivable history where many people in the community were invovled, not just the staff, but also psychiatrists, coroners, lawyers and police who must have turned a blind eye and just left these people to suffer out of the publics view.
after listning to a song, which seems to fit so perfectly with ngawhatu and saving the souls of the poor children and people who died up ther, iv decided i want to make a movie about it..
or at least write the story.. in an almost documentary-movie kind of way...
my interpreation of this is song is tht this guy goes up the the valley.. and altho its the most haunting place ever, hes just so extreme himself tht he sets out to free the souls of the children of the valley..
"Under the fog there are shadows moving
Don't be afraid, hold my hand"
.... he guides these lost children to find peace, and shows them compassion which they have never known...
"Speak to me now and the world will crumble
Open a door and the moon will fall"
when the souls try to communicate with others who visit the valley, their attempt to be set free fails becoz no one is strong enuf to help them... (i plan to encorperate the little girl in th cow paddock) she attempts to seek help.... but fails to get it, so is still trapped in the valley..
"All of your life, all your memories
Go to your dreams, forget it all....
oooooooooohhh sleep my child"
... when the children are finally set free they are released from the memories of their past and can rest peacefully"
th song itself is actually very haunting.. but with the slant of trying to help these children, who are innocent victims, who just need help, gives it a more positive light...
anyway... i want to encoperate as many little stories iv herd from people as possible into the plot.. plus im just interestd to hear more about the place...
hopefuly those who are a bit older than me have some stories of things to do with either the orphange or the institution...
thanks,
c
