Haha! They had no bananas, but we do! Right here in Wakefield, about 30kms inland from Nelson, another 30kms down the road south, where my sister lives, they get at least two or three dustings of snow a year. Last year most of our soft fruits were lost to frost, this year they are thriving, and, yes, we do have bananas! ;D What an amazing looking flower bud, can't wait till it's out, it's about 100mm diametre, HUGE!... ...and tucked in around behind the bud, check this out... ...,blardy amazing if you ask me, this early in the season I'm sure we can grow these bananas to maturity, WOW! ;D

I am excited about the bananas too. Especially that early in the season. They will get now special treatments

My Nana used to slit the bottom of a large clear plastic bag open and place it around the bunches. Kinda like making the banana's their own mini glasshouse.
I've seen it done elsewhere too.
