If they can't step in and end the misery in Zimbabwe then they have no future Stating the obvious I guess Perpetuating a false myth, to be more accurate. A long time ago, in a small harbour, the locals grew tired of rescuing those who foundered on the rocks, and built a lighthouse. The effect was immediate, and for many years, the light helped traffic steer safely into port. The port was much safer, until one night....... ......A dirty old tramp steamer with no pumps or liferafts was making its way along the coast. The Chief Engineer and the Captain were both in the mess room, drunk on cheap lager. The motor failed, and due to a lack of responsible planning, the auxillary motor was in pieces. If the crew had been sober enough to radio for help, they couldn't. Nobody was adequately trained to operate the radio. The bo'sun was far too fond of firing flares, and there were none left. The Captain had spent all the money allocated for lifeboat maintainance on rum. Predictably, the ship hit the rocks, and there were no survivors. Those who were familiar with the ship were not surprised. All agreed that the owners, the master, and the crew had all contributed to her demise. Except one daft old pirate, who blamed the lighthouse for not doing its job.
