One good thing about growing up... As my Dads work required him to transfer a lot, I got to see all of NZ by the time I was 15... From Nth Cape to Bluff... Only part I havent been is between Gisborne - Opotike, around the Coast... Thats next...

I remembered something today about my Dad, it was when Casius Clay was at his peak. My brother and I were play fighting and my dad showed me how to put my thumb on the outside, not on the inside, or I'd get it broken.
The only other fun thing he taught me to do was play 500. By 7 years of age I was a whizz.

A little Girls Dreams
Dreams keep running through my mind Reflecting memories of long ago. Made in a land of fairy tales, A place my heart longs for so. Cut off from the rest of the world With streams, and meadows to roam, Viewed from a little girl's eyes, A place that would always be home A place where berries grew wild Where rabbits and squirrels were seen Where a racoon could be a friend And deer played down by the stream. A world where imagination made all come true And a little girl could be a queen Where daydreams were spun like cobwebs But a world where everything wasn't what it seemed. For every little girl has to grow up And daydreams shatter in your hand, You find the home you thought was your own Is nothing but a simple piece of land. The flowers don't seem to bloom so bright, And fairy tales no longer come true, For it is seen now through grownup eyes, No longer the world that you knew. But still...Somewhere in the back of my mind That place will always remain From all those memories long ago To beckon me back time and again.

Snooka: Those are great places. If you can go see them - you won't regret it. My parents took us all over NZ in a combie van. Yes. They were hippies ... Still, it was pretty cool. ;D We're going to re-visit the West Coast of the South Island this year. Haven't been there for ages and thought it's time to go.

To return to original topic if that's ok!! My childhood was pretty shitty too - like some here have experienced - but we are, at least alive to tell/not tell the story. And it sounds like most of us have survived to be able to 'break the cycle' as 'they' say, ' and give our children a wealth of caring. This post was prompted by the sentence handed down to the mother and step-father of little Ngati Kura - the poor wee soul who was so terribly beaten and for whom the last 3 months of life must have been a living hell! His abusers/killers were sentenced to 8 years imprisonment with a parole period of just over 4 years!! What price a human life?? My heart aches

I think snooka there is a right and wrong way to show disapproval and quite frankly that wasnt one the better ways,... someones heart was involved in that post its called empathy,.. talking of her life as being shit in relation to ngati kura's tragedy tells me she was in the right thread and you had no right to make judgements about wether she had a right to say so in this thread ,,..you were way out of line ,..

I didnt " personal attack " And what are you editing dalby?? If you notice, I said 'no personal attacks' on Tormores post. Then, cos you quoted his post I had to edit his personal attack again.
