While I am here - I'll give you a run down on some of the equipment I use, I think to me it makes a huge difference on the finished product.
1. A RANGE for pencils ranging from HB through to 6 - 8 B - (hard leads through to soft) I personally prefer Faber-Castell. Be very careful with your soft lead pencils because if you drop them often they break right through the lead and basically are useless. I keep them sharpened when I can as I always use a sharp point unless I'm shading.
2. A good sharp pencil sharpener that won't blunt your pencils.
3. Acid Free paper (for artwork you want to show off) this will stop your work from discolouring.
4. Faber-Castell (I should ask for a commission for advertising them) has some lovey rubbers, some dust free which are excellent. Do NOT use coloured rubbers or ones that feel hard they are likely to take a layer of paper off when you try to use them.
5. A3 Plastic Covers - these are great for keeping your artwork safe - I get mine from the Stationery Warehouse.
6. Cotton Buds or paper battons - this will aide you in your shading and help to get a lovely soft look to your work.
7. You won't need this quite yet, but as you progress a Fixative ($15 a can approx) to spray onto your drawings to stop them from smudging.
8. I use tissues under my blade of my drawing hand to prevent my hand getting dirty as I draw.
9. Drawing board - tilted if possible as this gives you a better perspective on how your drawing is looking.
10. For finer work I use magnifying glasses or magnifying lamp - you won't need this for a while ... but if you suddenly get all inspired and wish to take it further it is definitely worth looking at or in this case - through.

Well you are all righthanded ... DUH Manukarose you can tell by which hand they all drew! haha. Mamamia (hiya darlin') - What I do like about your work is your ability to fill the page, you aren't timid in your drawing you just need to learn some techniques which I am HOPING we can do through this thread. You have an eye for detail especially when you love something (Ie: Jewellery) and your chair you really tried to get in perspective didn't u? Nice work hon ... Now forget them and move on - we will refer back to your first drawings in 2 1/2 months. xxx Thank you manukarose I did forget to give the person reading something to sit on lol! I will try hard and it will be good to see the difference at the end of it all, okay they are filed away now. Have a great weekend

No pressure tho! haha. You are welcome m'dear. Yes I can play the piano - however not sure how'd I'd teach that online! LOL. Hard to guage the same - however I guess u could put links to recordings that could be pretty entertaining. If you want to learn the piano ... perhaps you could ring someone? Usually it's not TOO expensive. Now SINGING I can't help you with. Sorry.

Hiya Misi - thanks heaps for your contribution and your artwork. I am too impressed with they way you have centered your drawings and made use of the page.
I can tell by your art that you are a person who usually likes to get the point across without the frills and bells ... trying to keep it simple. So with you I am hoping the techniques will help you gain form and depth in your drawings and the ability to add detail.
Well ... this is going to be interesting isn't it? WHERE IS MEANDDOG'S AND CHRISTINE'S AND DALBYJ'S PICCYS?
Teacher is very impressed with her students this far - not with just effort but with the enthusiasm.

Takes a very special person to sit with just a piece of paper and a hunk of lead (Graphite more aptly) and capture the essence of a person before them. One day I hope I will be able to do that - I don't think im there yet, but will be. Yes they are very clever the gypsies and very vibrant people. I have quite a few romanian friends who have the same vibrance but of course, a more stable lifestyle - ie: their house doesn't have wheels.

I drew this in 'paint' in one second ....... it was just a joke and I won't be contributing any drawings for obvious reasons........... It's great to see everyone else's first attempts, and I shall watch with interest to see you all improving with the help of a great tutor
